After her rocky performance a year before, Britney Spears is re-teaming with the MTV Video Music Awards.
The 26-year-old Spears has shot a promo for the September 7 show with host Russell Brand.

The spot is “mostly ad-libbed, with Russell asking her for advice about hosting the show,” a source tells E!. “There’s also a
9,000-pound elephant in it, as in ‘the elephant in the room.’”

Though it remains unlikely Spears will perform again this year, MTV president Van Toffler has said: “Everyone deserves a second or third chance … who knows?”

Spears — who has never won a “Moonman” but has been nominated 17 times — is up for two awards this year, including Best Female Music Video for “Piece of Me.”
In other VMA news, two more categories were announced Wednesday night at a taping of Pete Wentz’s show FNMTV.

In the category of “Best New Artist,” Miley Cyrus (”7 Things”) will face off against Taylor Swift (”Teardrops on My Guitar”), Tokio Hotel (”Ready Set Go”) and Katy Perry (”I Kissed A Girl”).
Up for “Best Dancing in a Video”: Ne-Yo (”Closer”), Danity Kane (”Damaged”), Pussycat Dolls (”When I Grow Up”), Chris Brown (”Forever”) and Madonna (”Four Minutes”).
